Buster didn’t want to play the hand because of the aces and 8’s. That particular 2 pair was called ‘The Dead Man’s Hand’ after a man was apparently murdered whilst holding those cards during a game of poker.

True Grit was a good Coen Brothers Western remake, except for casting Matt Damon (Another Anti-Gun POS Pansy from Massachusetts) but this shite is just silly. For yall people who don't know the hand buster scruggs got is known as the dead man's hand made known by "wild bill" hickok who was shot with this specific hand dead, this is some amazing foreshadowing with this show due to him dying not even 2 minutes later.

To those saying should be its own movie- that is disney/marvel brain, what makes a character great is the story- it's not like the character is a real guy you can plop into a different story. "Jesus" from the Coen brother's big lebowski was a great side character, but when Turturro (the actor) tried to make him into a full film it was shit- you had the character brand but not another good story.
Also, side note – I only noticed second time that he has two pairs. Buster is initially trying to bluff hard, but then resorts to violence when he himself is challenged. This makes the death all the more hilarious/pointless.

My takeaway from the Buster Scruggs story is the reason we never heard of him before is because someone faster than him came along and killed him. But we never heard of that guy either, because someone faster than him came along and killed him. And so on and so on. Until we really only heard of a few guys who were the fastest of all.
